The Unruly Marching Forward of Time

The Unruly Marching Forward of Time

A4 print in a white 11"x14" mount ready for framing.  A4 (landscape orientation).

From an original oil painting by Ashley Hyland.

Printed in London, painted in Sussex, England.

Wrapped in a cello sleeve for protection when handing.

When painting this.. my mind filled in the current alterations to the landscape... allowing the wind farm off the coast of Sussex to appear in the exact place they would have in the original painting.  An inner struggle that I did not understand arose in this section of the painting - it was only after a few days while the painting was drying that I realised what I saw before me - my painter's mind at work.

The paintings in the AFTERLIGHT SERIES are from a new process I am using in my painting, described as a technique by Quentin Blake in the recent BBC Documentary.  They use memory and repeated painting to probe deeply, allowing the mind to bring the most important details in the painting to the forefront, often beginning to tell the artist's story with new clarity.
